침묵의 봄* 연작 Silent Spring* series 좋아은경, 폐철사, 2013-2014 해가 지난 달력은 달력의 종이와 철사를 분리해 배출해야 한다. 달력 해체 과정에서 나온 용수철 철사를 구부려 새를 만들었다. 제목은 레이첼 카슨의 혁명적 환경 책 <침묵의 봄>에서 빌려왔다. 작업을 통해 재료 선택의 중요성과 공정의 최소화, 조립과 해체, 폐기의 문제를 이야기하고자 한다. 그린캔버스 달력의 용수철 제본의 대안을 고민하다 아이디어를 얻었다. 현재 그린캔버스 달력은 제본 없이 제작해 클립을 끼워 배포하고 있다. *1962년 출간된 <침묵의 봄(Silent Spring)>은 20세기에 가장 큰 영향력을 미친 환경 고전으로 DDT 등 유독성 화학물질의 무분별한 사용에 의한 지구생태계 파괴를 경고하는 내용이 담겨있다. 저자 레이첼 카슨(Rachel Carson, 1907-1964)은 미국의 해양생물학자 및 작가로 시적인 산문과 과학적 지식을 결합한 글쓰기로 여러 베스트 셀러를 남겼다.
